Introduction
CardHack™ is a simple and addictive addition to the HackPack™ game series, based on the popular card game, Rummy.
.
How to play
Transferring the game
to your handheld device
In order to play CardHack™ on your hand held device, you must first copy the CARDHACK.PRC file included in this distribution, to your hand held device. You may be able to use the Palm Quick Install application to make this transfer. If not, then check the instructions that came with your device.
Choosing a difficulty
level
The first thing you will see when you begin the game is the Game Selection Screen. You can choose a Difficulty Level by tapping one of the buttons, labeled: Easy, Normal, or Insane.
Game Play
The objective of CardHack™ is to link groups of tiles in sets (e.g. 3,3,3) or runs (e.g. 4,5,6,7). Unlike Rummy, runs and sets in CardHack™ can be formed with a minimum of two tiles or more. When a group of tiles is correctly linked and submitted, it will disappear and the tiles below will slide up into the empty space. If a column of tiles touches the lava at the bottom of the screen, the game is over. During the game, random tiles will slide up the screen and into place below the existing tiles in play. The speed at which new tiles appear will increase at each new level. Progression to the next level occurs when only 20 tiles are left on the board.
Note for Black and
White device owners:
B&W device owners will see tiles with numbers and playing card symbols. Please substitute any mention of color with the standard playing card symbols.
Linking and
submitting tiles
For example, to link a run of (1,2,3), tap the first 1 tile in the run. Then tap a 2 tile adjacent to the 1 tile. The adjacent tile must be located horizontally, vertically or diagonally from tile selected before it. Link as many adjacent tiles as possible to obtain the highest score. When the last tile is tapped, tap it again to submit the run. If successful, the run of tiles will disappear and the tiles below will slide up the screen. The following can also be applied to a set (e.g. 1,1 or 7,7,7).
Surprise Tiles
Surprise Tiles appear with question marks. These tiles can not be used in a set or run. However, when a Surprise Tile reaches the top row, it will transform into a randomly colored number. If a Surprise Tile must be eliminated before it reaches the top row, a single tap will cause it to disappear. However, a penalty of ten new tiles will instantly appear at the bottom of the screen and slide up into place.
Scoring
When you successfully submit a set or run, you will be awarded points equal to the number of tiles in the set or run, squared. A set or run must consist of at least two tiles. When all tiles in a set or run are the same color, points will be cubed instead of squared.
For example:
2 tiles = 4 points
3 tiles = 9 points
4 tiles = 16 points
5 tiles = 25 points
6 tiles = 36 points
7 tiles = 49 points
8 tiles = 64 points
9 tiles = 81 points
10 tiles = 100 points
Bonus for same color:
2 tiles = 8 points
3 tiles = 27 points
4 tiles = 64 points
5 tiles = 125 points
etc…
During game play, your Score is displayed at the top of the screen. Tiles Left required to reach the next level is displayed on the top right. If you attain the Highest Score ever achieved, then your score will be permanently displayed as the High Score for the Difficulty Level you just played.
Pausing and
Restarting
If you need to Pause the game, you can tap the Pause Button in the upper right corner of the screen. To Restart the game, tap the Square Stop Button on the left of the Pause Button.
